Global Tiger Initiative is an alliance of Governments, International Agencies, Civil Society, and the private sectors united to save wild tigers from extinction. Kathmandu Global Tiger Workshop is being organized following the mandate of 4th General Assembly of Global Tiger Forum and 14COP of CITES. This workshop is a technical workshop (Oct 27-30, 2009) which will lead to a Thailand ministerial meeting (Jan 2010) and ultimately leading to Summit of Range State Leaders during the Year of the Tiger planned for October 2010. The recommendations of the Kathmandu Global Tiger Workshop would also be discussed in the 5th general Assembly of the Global Tiger Forum in early 2010.

This workshop is being hosted and organized by Government of Nepal, Ministry of Forests and soil conservation in association with Global Tiger Forum (GTF) and Global Tiger Initiative (GTI). The main organizers of the workshop are World Bank, Save the Tiger Fund, WWF, National Trust For Nature Conservation.

The steering committee is chaired by secretary, Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation and management committee is chaired by Director General, Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation is working for the overall management of the workshop in Kathmandu with the support of the World Bank, WWF, IUCN, NTNC and other members in the committee.

It is expected that round 150 participants from the government and non-government participants of the 13 tiger range countries, representatives of international conservational partners and experts to attend the workshop.
